From 23-25 September 2025 we attended Seed Meets Technology 2025 in Zwaagdijk-Oost, The Netherlands. This event brings together seed industry professionals, researchers and companies in the horticultural sector to showcase seed technology, breeding support, cultivation systems and more.
What stood out
- A highly focused format: Around 1,500 visitors and 40+ exhibitors.
- The emphasis on seed innovation: coatings, breeding, sustainable crop protection, demonstration fields.
- The very hands-on demo element: trial fields in the Seed Valley region, more interaction between exhibitors & visitors.
- For us at SeedSoft, monitoring how seed companies address digitalisation, data & technology in their workflows was especially relevant.
Why it was worth attending
- It offered deep dive access into the seed side of the value chain—something less visible at broader agri-food events.
- The conversations were high quality—many with people I had only met online before.
- It allowed a clearer view of where the horticultural seed industry is heading (Europe/vegetable seeds in particular) and how our solutions can match the emerging needs.
- The smaller scale meant it was easier to engage, ask detailed questions and build meaningful connections.
Key take-aways and outlook
- The vegetable-seed segment in Europe is clearly accelerating—you get the sense of “well-established but still dynamic”.
- Technologies around seed treatment, coatings, digital support and improved variety selection are becoming standard.
- For SeedSoft: partnering with seed companies on their digital journey and understanding their material/production challenges remains critical.

Seed Meets Technology may not be the largest trade fair you’ll attend—but its laser-focus on seed innovation makes it a must-be for anyone serious about the seed industry. We left convinced SeedSoft will return every year: the conversations, demonstrations and industry shifts all point in that direction.
